My name is Jeff Cross. That’s the name my mother and father gave me on May 20th in the year 1977. I’ve grown to like it. However, in late 2008 I changed my name to “Jeff Cross Photo” when I started my journey into fashion, beauty, promotional, and related commercial photography.

I don’t consider myself a photographer, though. I like to think of  myself as a “Photographist”. I don’t approach a camera and a subject with documentation in mind. I rarely take my camera to events, family gatherings, on road trips, or other places any normal person would think to carry their camera. I just don’t think of my camera like that. I approach my camera as more of a tool, or foundation for the creation I will later achieve.

When I set out to shoot an individual or a group of people, I’m not there to document them or preserve them as they are in time on “such and such” date. I walk on set with one goal in mind: to stretch my canvas as tight as I need for the painting I will create later by manipulating the light and massaging pixels through technology and software. I create artwork, or images, not photos.
